OUR STORY
The Story of the Owner/Trainer:
Monica Cornejo Rahman
As Told in Her Own Words
“M&M stands for Monica and Miguel. There would be no M&M without Miguel.
Miguel is the one that introduced me, at a very early age, to the wonderful world of horses and was my biggest fan and support. Miguel Cornejo was not only my dad; he was my friend, trainer, and mentor. Being a world-class competitor, world champion triathlete, and a swimming world record holder, he always pushed me to be the best. He supported me in my dream to become a top rider, professional, and to start my own business.
I started competing at the age of 9. By the time I turned 14, I already had a couple of national championships under my belt. I had a very successful child and junior jumper career, including international competitions in the US, Guatemala and Puerto Rico. At 17, I qualified for the Young Riders in Chicago. We won gold. Then off to the Central American games, gold again. Next up were the trials for the Olympic Games.
Focused on my riding and my studies, I graduated with a degree in child development and special education that has helped me tremendously in working with young children as a trainer. After finishing my degree, I went to work for La Silla Sport Horses, a very prestigious barn in Monterrey, Mexico. This was the most valuable time for me. I was working with world class trainers, riders and course designers. In addition, I was able to participate in world-class clinics, helped with youth camps, assisted the veterinary staff at the horse hospital, hosted international horse shows - and got to ride some of the best horses in the world. This was one of the pivotal learning experiences that fueled my desire to do more than just compete - to train riders and horses.
Shortly after, I got married and had a family - yet the horse bug never left me. A decade later I was back competing and winning, this time based in the US. With my dad by my side, I decided to turn professional and established M&M Ranch - a barn where I can share all the knowledge, passion and love that I have for these amazing animals, and the sport I fell in love with so many years ago.”
